Year 5 pupils at Allenby Primary School in Southall had a chance to learn about local issues on a trip to Parliament.

They visited the House of Commons as guests of their local MP, Virendra Sharma on Wednesday (November 26). They heard from the Labour MP about his career path and local matters including the downgrading of Ealing Hospital's A&E.

After his talk, Mr Sharma answered questions from the students about his role, his values and matters concerning the local area and said it had been a pleasure to meet with them.

He added: "I was surprised and amazed to see how these young children had an interest in politics; they were well aware of pertinent national and local issues. Many were particularly interested in the Queen and were fascinated when I said that I’ve met her on several occasions. The students had many incisive and informed questions about what is going on in their community.

"The future looks very promising with these young children, who will one day be voters and change makers, who are already involved in the political process."
