A COUPLE of weeks back I wrote to the newspaper about what I felt were inadequate services being provided by Hillingdon Council relating to gritting and refuse and recycling collections over the festive period (No sign of gritters over festive period, Letters, January 6).

Imagine my surprise when I answered my front door to be confronted by (Councillor) Allan Kauffman (Con, South Ruislip), who came to visit me so that he could listen to my concerns in person.

Not only that but Allan promised to return when he was fully briefed as to what actions had been decided over the period. Exemplary service indeed.

I'm not saying that Allan changed my opinion, but what he did explain was that sometimes the council have to look at the bigger picture with regard to the entire borough.

Having met Allan, I have to say that the residents of South Ruislip are extremely lucky to have a person who feels so passionately about local issues fighting their corner.
