CRACK cocaine worth £2,500 and kept in a carrier bag was seized by a South Harrow community cop.

Sergeant Paul Culver, who heads up Rayners Lane Safer Neighbourhood Team, said he saw a man walking along Yeading Path, off Northumberland Avenue, with a small Marks and Spencer plastic bag in his hand.

"He was stopped by police and a search was carried out under the Misuse of Drugs Act but he made off and threw a bag of drugs into bushes," said Sgt Culver.

"There were three big rocks of crack cocaine and a number of smaller wraps. The rocks were like average-sized conkers."

News of the incident has only just come to light through a police community newsletter.

And although the suspect, who was black, managed to escape arrest by running away towards Graham Park Avenue, Sgt Culver prevented the class A drugs from reaching the streets.

"We've disrupted his business, as it were. We know of him and his route for transporting the drugs," he said.
"We're hoping that we get some good forensic information so we'll see what happens next."
