ALL GP surgeries will be open in Hillingdon today, despite a doctor’s strike. But NHS North West London has warned that there may be a reduced service at some centres.

Urgent and emergency care will be unaffected by the walkout.

The British Medical Association (BMA) announced in May that its members had voted in favour of strike action.

The BMA, which is the trade union for doctors, said the 24-hour strike action was over changes to pensions, which would force doctors to work for longer and make larger contributions.

It is the first time such action has been taken by doctors in 40 years.

If you have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow and have not been notified of any change, you should attend, health officials have advised.

If you are ill and require non-urgent treatment, contact NHS Direct at www.nhs.uk/nhsdirect or on 0845 4647.
