Actress Lesley Ann Manville has received an OBE for her services to drama.

The 59-year-old, who lives in Brentford, has performed on stage in the West End and starred in a number of films including, most recently, Disney's Maleficent.

The trained soprano-singer pursued a career in television and theatre before starring in movies with her longest role as Rosemary Kendall in Emmerdale Farm in the late '70s.

In 2014, she won the Olivier award for best actress as Helene Alving in 2013 play Ghosts, and was named British Actress of the Year at the London Film Critics Circle awards for her performance in 2002 film All or Nothing and 2010 film Another Year, the latter for which she also received a BAFTA nomination.

Ms Manville said: "To be honoured for my work, in a country whose culture I hold in such high esteem makes me extremely proud and happy.

"I've been working abroad quite a bit lately and it's served to make me appreciate even more the amazing arts we have in Britain.

"At least now everyone will know why I've been walking around with such a big smile on my face!"

In her most recent project she takes on he role of a chief inspector in River, a British crime drama television series filmed in London on BBC One.
