A SCHOOL got to the final of an environmental competition with an idea to reduce food waste in the borough.

Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, in Queen's Drive, Acton, was selected as the only London school out of 10 finalists across the country in the Climate Cops SOS competition.

Last year, the school won £1,000 donated by energy supplier npower behind the scheme to implement their recycling idea. The students used the money to buy food waste bins for the area to encourage their neighbours to recycle food as well as rubbish.

Judge and TV personality Ben Fogle met the girls at the final in Birmingham earlier this month.

He said: "Ellen Wilkinson students have proved that small actions can make a big difference. This competition was a great way to give young people the tools to make a real difference in their community."
