I AGREE with A Hilton in his letter on April 17.Acton is a SLUM.
But who is to blame? It has to be Ealing Council for allowing all these greengrocers and takeways on our high street.
Take a good look around our town -pot-holed roads, broken paving stones, litter etc and that's just not the high street. It's all over.
It seems to me that all the money is spent in Southall, Ealing, Greenford and Northolt.
The planning department has to have some blame in parts of Acton, when perfectly good family houses are being turned into two flats, extensions that take away your light and roof extensions that take away your privacy in your own gardens.
A close look will show you how many empty flats are up for rent or sale in the area. Parts of the area are deemed ghettos eg South Acton. Now take a look at North Acton -especially by the station. Park Royal industrial estate is in the London Borough of Ealing but do the roads ever get cleaned, let alone mended? No. My neighbours and family say Acton should be re-named CRAPTON. So come on London Borough of Ealing. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
