A NURSE from Acton is preparing to take part in a 5km Superhero Run for charity on Sunday.

Silke Bauer, originally from Germany, has been working in the UK for the past two years and is raising money for Imperial College Healthcare.

The Hammersmith Hospital nurse has promised to dress up in a superhero costume if she reaches her target of £150 by the day of the race.

She said: “If I can’t reach the target in advance, I’m going to run in regular sports clothing, so hopefully this will encourage people to sponsor me.”

As part of her fundraising efforts, the runner also organised a cake sale at Hammersmith Hospital. She chose Imperial College Healthcare Charity so that she could see what the money is used for.

Claire Teager, individual giving fundraiser for the charity, said: “The Superhero Run is a huge amount of fun and you don’t need to be an expert runner to take part. Our work in hospitals wouldn’t be possible without the support we get from donors and people like Silke who take part in events like the Superhero Run.”

More than 1,000 people are expected to run in the race this year.
