THE new Hampton and Twickenham academies will be up and running by September, following the approval of a £39million funding agreement by the schools minister.
Whitton School and Hampton Community College will reopen as academies after the summer term under the control of Swedish sponsor Kunskapsskolan.
The sites will be rebuilt over the coming years. Hampton Academy will focus on performing arts and communication studies, while its Twickenham counterpart will be a specialist sports and digital technologies centre.
The Learning Schools Trust, a charity, will manage the academies, which will be the Swedish firm's first in the UK.
Kunskapsskolan's executive chairman Peje Emilsson said: "This is an important milestone in the development of Kunskapsskolan. We are proud to sponsor the Twickenham and Hampton academies and to introduce our model for personalised learning in the UK."
