ABBOTSFIELD School celebrated its best ever exam results, with 80 per cent of students scoring five A* to C grades.

Among the success stories on the day was 16-year-old Nouman Ali.

He came to the school, in Clifton Gardens, Hillingdon from Pakistan in 2008 and spoke little English.

Staff said it was his sheer determination and hard work that saw him score 12 GCSEs at A* to C, including an A in Maths.

The 16-year-old said: “Everyone was really helpful when I first came here. After a year I knew that I would be able to achieve these results.”

Nouman will now join the school’s sixth form to study maths and statistics, economics, ICT and government and politics and wants to be an accountant.

Also pleased as punch was Gospel Barnabas, 16, who scored 2A*s, 6As and 1B.

He will go on to study law at college.

He said: “I was pleased with my Maths result (A) as I thought I was going to get lower.

“I’m happy with my results.”

The school hailed its results as a “tremendous achievement.”

Headteacher Mark Bland said: “We’re very pleased. It is down to the hard work and team effort of all the staff and the pupils.”

“Hopefully we will do even better next year.”
