A stretch of the A40 Westway near White City has claimed the life of another motorcyclist.

The victim, a 28-year-old man, died after smashing into the central reservation near the Northern Roundabout's eastern slipway on Tuesday, March 15 at 11pm.

It is not the first time a rider has been killed on that section of the road, which is currently subject to a temporary 30mph speed limit. In July 2010, a jazz drummer at the Ronnie Scott's club in Soho, Chris Dagley, 38, died instantly when he lost control of his scooter in the early hours of the morning.

Further down the stretch, near the Paddington slipway, there were two tragedies in two days in May 2009 when riders Dimitrijius Usas, 32, and Mohamad El-Sayede Ahmad, 41, died, both after ploughing into the central reservation.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on the latest victim at Westminster Mortuary, but traffic officers are still awaiting the results.

The safety of the 30mph limit, which is set to continue for the foreseeable future as Transport for London carry out repairs to the road, has been questioned by some riders, including blogger Martin Lewis.

He told his moneysavingexpert.com website: "As a frequent scooter rider, it’s virtually impossible to stick to the speed limit. If I go 30mph everyone is on my tail or beeping dangerously, as the road is naturally much faster, and people simply haven’t adapted to the new speed limit.

"There are no speed cameras on the road, so most people still go at the old limit, leaving it tough to stick to the new one."
