I AM writing to express in the strongest possible terms my objection to the new proposed bus route 324.
As a long-standing resident of St Andrew's Drive (since 1985), I cannot understand how the roads on the suggested route, namely Old Church Lane, Abercorn Road, St Andrew's Drive and Culver Grove, are deemed appropriate or suitable for a bus route. These roads are fundamentally unsuitable, for the following reasons:
They are extremely narrow roads, which already have significant and heavy usage. Making them a bus route will only increase congestion, more accidents and at busy times limit access to emergency services;
Stanburn School, situated on Abercorn Road, creates total chaos and extremely heavy congestion particularly between the hours of 8.30am to 9am and 3.30pm to 4pm.
Sending buses down Abercorn Road will increase congestion and indeed push further congestion along St Andrew's Drive as parents dropping kids will seek to park their cars along this road thus making these very busy roads completely inaccessible to residents and emergency services.
Cars attempting to pass the buses while stopped will make the roads increasingly dangerous for pedestrians and motorists, potentially leading to an increased number of road traffic accidents.
Adding a bus route will decrease visibility while raising the risk to pedestrians attempting to cross the roads.
Getting out of a driveway will become extremely hazardous, particularly along St Andrew's Drive, Abercorn Road and up to Culver Grove which are not only narrow roads but are surrounded by three schools. Visibility is already limited. Additionally if congestion increases along St Andrew's Drive as mentioned in my second point then this will also affect residents there;
Parents currently drop their children at St Andrew's Drive so they can walk through Centenary Park to Park High School and cross the zebra crossing to Stanburn School. The introduction of a bus route will make this activity considerably more dangerous for children and parents alike.
Furthermore, Stanmore Montessori is based in Micklem Hall in Old Church Lane.
The road is used by the parents for drop-off and pick-up. There is absolutely no way a bus will be able to safely negotiate through these parked cars, which will endanger the safety and well-being of these young children
