PARKING restrictions which could see residents fined £330 for parking outside their own homes have been met with uproar in Page Road, Feltham.

Tenants on the new estate are furious that they will be limited to one space per household and there are no disabled or visitors bays under the scheme bought in by their housing association, Catalyst.

The 'draconian' rules will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and rule breakers will have their cars towed away and have to cough up £330 to get it back.

Residents claim they were not consulted on the rules and were given just 10 days to register for their £25 annual permits so have submitted a petition with 70 signatures to Catalyst demanding changes.

Syreeta Roberts is disabled but will have to fork out for a permit and if she has carers or family to visit, they will have to park almost 200 yards away on public roads.

“They know what they are doing. It's just a way of making money,” she said. “Everyone's very, very angry about it. We were told we would have disabled and visitors' spaces but we haven't.”

About 100 residents moved into new homes in Page Road last year after their former properties were bulldozed for redevelopment. About 200 more homes are due to be occupied in the street, which is a private road.

Steve Kinger's family is one of many that will be punished by one car per household rule as his 22-year-old son who lives with them will not be able to get a permit.

“It's a disgrace that my son will face a £330 fine for parking outside his own house,” he said. “People are up in arms about it and Catalyst are basically saying 'if you don't like it then go'.”

A spokeswoman for Catalyst said the scheme had been brought in at the request of residents and that the system would change if there was sufficient demand to do so.

She said: “We are open to relaxing restrictions during the day for visitors, for example, if residents want. The essential thing is to try to ensure every household has at least one parking space, especially in the evenings when many residents are driving home from work.”
