TWO teenage boys are facing custodial sentences for the manslaughter of a widow during a street robbery.

The defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the Old Bailey today (Thursday).

Partially-sighted grandmother of three, Paula Castle, 85, was knocked down during an attack by the 15-year-olds in broad daylight last November.

Mrs Castle, of West Ridge Gardens, Greenford, was walking along the alleyway between Goring Way and Oldfield Lane South when she was pushed to the ground and robbed.

She was found by a passer-by with facial injuries and her shopping trolley upturned.

Mrs Castle, who lived alone, was described at the time by a neighbour as a lady who ‘kept herself to herself’.

She was taken to Ealing Hospital then transferred to St Mary’s in Paddington where she was pronounced dead the following day.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be head injuries.

The 15-year-olds are awaiting sentence this afternoon.
