The 11-year-old boy killed in a hit and run car smash has been named as Neasden resident Michael Richard Martin McDonagh.


The youngster, known as Richie to his friends and family, was mown down as he walked over a pedestrian crossing outside Ikea, on the eastbound North Circular at its junction of Brentfield Road and Drury Way.


He was hit by two cars, but the driver of the first failed to stop at the scene.


A growing number of tributes has been placed at the spot since the tragedy on Saturday evening.


A post mortem examination at Northwick Park Hospital gave the cause of death as multiple injuries and an inquest will be opened and adjourned today (3) at Hornsey Coroners Court.


So far no arrests have been made.


Sergeant Chris Osborne, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The initial vehicle, which failed to stop at the scene is possibly an older model BMW.


"The car collided with the boy on the pedestrian crossing and carried on eastbound towards Brent Cross. Following the first collision the boy was struck by another car. The driver of the second car stopped nearby."
