A new campaign that aims to help children make healthy lifestyle choices has been launched.

Go Golborne will campaign about healthy eating and keeping active and find new ways to make it easier for children and families to put health messages into practice

The three-year council project will include food growing projects in schools, installing new water fountains in parks and developing schemes to promote walking and cycling.

To mark the launch on May 22, Kensington & Chelsea councillors took part in a dash around four schools in the Golborne, Notting Hill area.

Starting at Bevington School to award a Healthy Schools Silver Award, the councillors then dashed between St Charles Catholic Primary School, Barlby Primary School and finished at St Thomas’ Church of England School for a special healthy eating assembly.

Among those taking part were Cllr Mary Weale. She said: “I’m delighted to see how enthusiastic the children are. Go Golborne is a great opportunity to help children and parents find out more about the small changes we can all make to lead healthier lives.

“Judging by the excitement at the schools we went to today, I’m sure the next three years will provide lots of great opportunities to help children eat well, keep active and feel good.”

To help drum up publicity, a family day in the area took place on Bank Holiday Monday, which included African dancing in Kensal Library and juggling and stilt walking in Little Wormwood Scrubs.

If the pilot scheme is successful the council will look at rolling it out across the borough.
