So, we have a new future King! And didn't Kate and William look so happy and very much in love when they showed us their new baby Prince George.

Kate is staying with her mother so that should allow her some well deserved rest. New mums need to take every opportunity they can to rest, as I know from experience. Those first few weeks can be so tiresome and its an endless round of feeding baby, changing nappies and baby sleeping.

One thing new mums often forget in all this chaos is themselves. Once the baby is born, what are the best ways to relax and look after your mind and your body - time permitting of course? The last thing you'll have time for is losing the baby weight, so it is important to eat a very healthy diet for optimum health for you and baby. Especially if your breast feeding.

Lots of fruit, vegetables and healthy wholemeal carbohydrates. Studies have also shown eating a diet rich in nutrients can help prevent post natal depression. Just remember, what you eat and drink, baby eats and drinks.  So, if you eat junk food, your baby eats junk food.  You’ll also feel sluggish if your eating the wrong foods and you need lots of energy during this time.

The same goes for anything your body absorbs such as creams. lotions, potions. My advice is to keep these products very simple and buy the best you can get your hands on but remember what I always say - higher price does not mean a better product!

Here are a couple of my favourites and don’t forget - what you use on baby can be used by you.

Earth Friendly Baby pride themselves on being 100% natural and 70% organic.  Fabulous products at great prices! You can buy them at Boots, Tesco and John Lewis. Try their Calming Lavender Shampoo and Body Wash only £4.08 at John Lewis right now.

Boo Boo Baby - winner of best baby products at the 12/13 Mother & Baby awards. Products are kind, luxurious & effective. I like the Very Gentle Top to Toe wash at £7.99. To be honest, I think some of their products are a bit pricey if your on a budget but they are lush so ask for them as gifts! www.loveboo.com

Now if your looking to pamper yourself even more why not pop down to the newly opened salon/retreat on the Kings Road called Mermaid.  www.mermaid.co.uk   They have a whole range of services for both you and baby such as post baby workshops on breastfeeding and sleep routines to post baby yoga (from 6 weeks after giving birth), massages and re?exology for mum to relax.

Right ok, your a new mum but also remember your still you. You need your bikini wax, your hair needs a good cut but you have no baby sitter or quite frankly, you may not want to leave your baby with anyone else just yet but you need to get your legs defuzzed. A great baby friendly hair and beauty salon is Independent Mind Body and  Soul. They have a salon in Wimbledon and another Balham.  Its a safe baby friendly salon where you can take baby whilst you get all your standard beauty treatments such as your leg wax or mani/pedi. www.indepenentmindbodyandsoul.co.uk

Enjoy this precious time with your new little person!
