Neighbours say a tree stump which has been blocking the pavement in their street for four months is dangerous.

Remains of a tree which fell in Jacqueline Close, Northolt , during the St Jude’s storms back in October are yet to be cleared up by Ealing council.

Linda Steel, 58, who lives in Jacqueline Close, said it is outrageous that they have had to wait this long, especially when people have been complaining to the council for the last few months.

Mrs Steel said: “Since October is a long time for us to put up with this. When I phoned the council they said it was not a priority.

“It affects me because I have got two dogs and take them out for walks.

“My neighbour’s elderly father is in a wheelchair and for her to take him out she has to walk in the middle of the road.”

Becky Ofosu, who has been living in the road for more than nine years, said: “The whole tree fell during the storm and I think the council came to clear it up but left the stump and roots.

“The pavement is damaged as well. The council need to take away the trunk and repair the pavement for us so we can walk freely on it.

“My kids are seven, six and nine months so I have to go on the main road with a pram and I don’t think it’s safe.

“I want them to clear it up as soon as they can.”

A council spokesperson said: “The St Jude’s Day storm in October caused the loss of hundreds of trees across the borough, and resulted in an unprecedented number of tree stumps that require specialist removal.

“Our contractor has been working to safely remove them - in addition to their normal workload - and will continue to do so until all are removed.

“The tree stump in Jacqueline Close is scheduled to be removed this week.”
