A powerful jet of water shooting out of the pavement stopped passersby in Ealing their tracks.

A faulty stop tap in Castlebar Park was behind the spectacle on Sunday (September 17) which Ealing Police took to Twitter to share.

MPS Ealing tweeted a photo of the water jet and said: "Burst water main on Castlebar Park W5. # AsHighAsAHouse # WaterFairies ."

"Magical" as it was, Ealing's pavement fountain was not down to water fairies nor a burst main.

A Thames Water spokesman said: "The incident in Castlebar Park wasn’t a burst water main but a faulty stop tap.

"The repair was completed just before 10am."
