A DRIVER who killed a pensioner in front of her granddaughter as they crossed a road in Brentford together has today (Tuesday) been jailed for six years.

Mariusz Jusza, 36, of Greenford Avenue, Greenford, confessed at Kingston Crown Court to causing the death of 68-year-old Margaret Streeter in Half Acre on October 28 last year.

He had appeared in court on Friday (31) charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving whilst uninsured and causing death by driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He admitted all charges.

Mrs Streeter, a mother of eight of London Road, Isleworth, was hit after Jusza was seen to overtake another car close to a zebra crossing around 4pm. The car missed her seven-year-old granddaughter.

Representatives from nearby St Paul’s Church looked after the young girl while emergency services tended to Mrs Streeter. However, she was declared dead at the scene.

Her funeral took place at Hanworth Crematorium in November and many floral tributes have been left at the scene even to the present time.

Her youngest daughter, Kayleigh Barber, 26, told the Chronicle following her mum’s death: “She was the centre of our family, we just can’t believe she’s gone in the way she did.

“She was just the best mother in the world and would do absolutely anything for anyone, she put everybody first and was always somebody you could turn to, she was just one of those women.”

Baljit Ubhey, CPS London Chief Crown Prosecutor said: “Mariusz Jusza’s dangerous driving has devastated a family.

“(He) overtook another vehicle on the approach to a zebra crossing which was on a damp road approaching a blind bend. This was an exceptionally dangerous manoeuvre which ultimately cost Margaret Streeter her life.

“I hope the conviction of Jusza gives some small comfort to Mrs Streeter’s family. Our thoughts are with them at this time.”
