Shoppers in Hounslow are being urged to get behind small shops and businesses in the borough this festive season.

This Christmas families should venture out to the independent shops on the borough's high streets to find stocking fillers and gifts to put under the tree.

MP Mary Macleod has called on residents to support shopkeepers by 'keeping trade local' during one of the busiest shopping months in the calendar, and to go along to Small Business Saturday next month.

As the business ambassador for London, Ms Macleod who has joined forced with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to encourage local shopping, said: “We have some fantastic independent shops and businesses on our high streets, something that contributes to the unique character of our area.

"We all need to do our bit to support them so they can continue to grow.

"I hope you will join me to take the ‘Keep Trade Local London Challenge’ as you do your Christmas shopping this year.

"I looking forward to being out and about around all of our High Streets on Small Business Saturday to visit as many small businesses as I can and I hope to see many of you then.”

The campaign to keep trade local will start on November 22 and leads up to the annual Small Business Saturday event, backed by Prime Minister David Cameron, on December 6.

You can also join Ms Macleod and councillor Paul Lynch for the Christmas lights switch on and carol singing outside the George IV pub on Chiswick High Road on Thursday, November 27, when shops will stay open late to get the festive shopping underway.
