Richmond resident Jenny Henshaw, 22, has set up her own tutoring business, as she bids to make tutoring a more positive and social profession.
The company, Tutors of Richmond, offers tutoring, CV support, personal statement support and education guidance for people in the west and south-west London areas.
Students receive tailored tuition to learning style, consolidation of classwork and monthly reports for GCSE and A-Level in English, maths and science.
Henshaw, company director and tutor, attended Waldegrave School for Girls in Twickenham and has been tutoring since sixth form.
She said: "We are providing tuition in Richmond, west London and south-west London, at the moment covering English, maths and science at all levels up to A-level, but we are looking for tutors who will be able to provide a wider range of subjects as well as University-level tuition and above.
"I have been tutoring since I was 17, so I know the market quite well; I felt that after working through tutoring agencies I could make a much more positive place for tutors to work, with a much better service for parents.
"As well as tutoring, we're also providing a social community for tutors, and as the business grows I want to provide, both for students and tutors, extra things like CV-writing workshops, personal statement workshops, organising charity events so that students can put that on their CV.
"It's more than just education, we're interested in making a well-rounded person."
Inspired by her own experience working through agencies, Henshaw wanted to make sure that her company provided more than just a straightforward tutoring service.
As well as all tutors requiring a university degree and DBS check, tutors are also matched to students based on hobbies and interests, ensuring that students and tutors will have a fun relationship and rapport.
Henshaw said: "Students can be any age; you don't have to be doing exams, you could be looking for help with writing a personal statement or day-to-day maths.
"All of the tuition sessions are tailored to how students learn, so if for example the student is a visual learner that will be catered for."
Tutors of Richmond is an expanding business, and is currently looking for tutors as well as students.
Henshaw said: "The more tutors we have on board, the more we can provide. If we do well where we are there's absolutely nothing stopping us from expanding, not just in London, but around the country."
