A maths teacher from Wembley has been shortlisted for the Virgin Media Business 'PitchtoRich' competition.

Colin Hegarty, who recently received an award for UK Teacher of the Year, has developed a free learning-based maths programme for eight to 17-year-olds, teaching students both at home and in school.

Hegarty Maths, set for release in September, aims to provide a place to teach and assess anything a child needs to learn in school maths, providing extra support at home.

“I love teaching maths, it can really open doors for young people," Mr Hegarty told getwestlondon.

"But it can also be a real struggle for others and become a real barrier in life. Therefore I set up HegartyMaths to help students learn maths for free."

If he wins, Colin will receive £150,000 and 12 months business mentoring from Richard Branson himself.

You can help Colin win the competition by voting for HegartyMaths on the 'PitchtoRich' competition website. The winner will be announced on June 22.
