London business ITStudent@Home is a unique business that employs IT students to teach skills to technophobic community members.

The business aims to kill two birds with one stone, by helping IT students get employed with vital work experience, and by helping the local community gain computer and web skills.

ITStudent@Home offers one-to-one tuition for smartphones, tablets and computers, and currently works within housing associations to assist residents. The service is now expanding to private homes and small businesses.

The company's founder, Kelly Klein, said: "London has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and needs businesses such as ITStudent@Home to generate jobs.

"There are over 99,000 students studying computer sciences in the UK, and on graduation many struggle to get their foot on the employment ladder due to a lack of work experience.

"ITStudent@Home gives IT students the experience necessary to help them into sustainable long-term employment when they leave university.

"This unique service aims to tackle the digital divide. Many find technology intimidating... We are offering people friendly one-to-one training in the comfort of their own home."

With one-in-four UK adults never having accessed the Internet, most of whom are over 65, the company assists community members with limited knowledge of computers and helps them to get online.

Services will be extended across the UK in 2015.

ITStudent@Home user Jo-Ann Nighy said: "I am totally hooked! Up until I met Zahid, who is now my cherished personal IT expert... I classed myself as a technophobe.

"Since meeting Zahid, things have changed dramatically; I feel empowered. He has given me the opportunity to ask questions that I would have been too ashamed to ask, I felt he genuinely enjoyed working out how to get around giving me what I needed.

"I am a person of the heart, not of the hard-drive... ITStudent@Home has at it's heart a sincere old fashioned desire to help people. I only wish I'd gone to them for help sooner."
