Heinz is to go ahead with plans to make 248 office workers redundant, with jobs at its headquarters in Hayes on the line.

The food company announced in August that it was consulting staff on plans to shed around 10 per cent of its office-based workforce, and that consultation finished last week.

Heinz has confirmed to the Hayes Gazette that it is going ahead with implementing a new ‘streamlined structure’.

The company has its head office in Hayes End Road, as well as factories in Wigan, Kendal, Telford, Westwick, Worcester and Dundalk in Ireland. Following the summer announcement, Heinz said it would offer redundancy payments and assist staff in finding new jobs.

Nigel Dickie, director of corporate and government affairs, said office roles at all of the sites would be affected. He added that the decision had been taken in order to ‘better position the company to support and fund our next chapter of growth while further strengthening our world-leading brands’.

Heinz employs about 2,600 people in total and produces the iconic Ketchup and Beanz products.

It was taken over by American conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway and investors 3G Capital in February, in an £18billion deal.
