West London businesses from the biggest and most influential to the smallest, most community focused, were celebrated at an awards night.

The glittering ceremony took place last night (Thursday) as more than 200 guests gathered at the London Heathrow Marriott, in Bath Road, Harlington.

The big winner was Park Royal based Kolak Snack Foods Ltd who not only scooped a Highly Commended in the Food and Drink Business of the Year but went on to claim the two top prizes of West London Business of the Year and Overall Business of the Year.

The judging panel commended every aspect of the company’s set-up and said: “This was a very strong and impressive entry, showing that growth and turnover are high.

“They have just opened a new £9.6 million 45,000 sq ft factory which has increased their turnover by 20% and have also doubled their turnover in four years.

“The number of new jobs they have created in the area is incredible - going from 100 employees at the start to around 750 these days.

“They have always had a very diverse workforce and they are committed to providing an inclusive working environment in which everyone is treated fairly.”

The night was hosted by former Capital Radio DJ and current Drivetime presenter on Radio Jackie Mick Brown.

The event, which was the first of its kind, was organised jointly between the chamber of commerce group West London Business and Chart Lane; a consultancy firm known for its work with local groups including LookWest and Place West London.

Get West London’s owners Trinity Mirror Southern were invited to be a partner and its deputy editor Adrian Seal was part of the judging panel which also included: Sir Eric Peacock, Michael Rooney (London First), Colin Stanbridge (London Chamber of Commerce), Clinton Leeks (HS2), Ash Verma (CE, Gateway Business Consultants), Lalji Vekaria (Director, Saloria Architects), Gita Katbamna (Consultant, Independent), Nigel Milton (Director, Political Relations – BAA), Andrew Ward (Director, Corporate Relations – Brunel University), Alan Holland (Director, Greater London – SEGRO Plc), Suresh Gamlath (University of West London), and Paula Whittle (Principal - Ealing, Hammersmith, West London College).

Other winners included big employers like Galliford Try, Brunel University and the London Borough of Harrow, as well as smaller companies like Clearview Homes, Grain and Anthony Groves Design.

With such a large number of entries, just getting on the shortlist was an achievement.

Frank Wingate, CEO of WLB said: “the quality on show was fantastic; we knew West London had amazing companies doing incredible business, and this just proves it!”
