A Chiswick brewer at Fuller's has won recognition for his brewing of great beers by scooping a prize in the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) awards.

John Keeling, 58, who has been brewing beer in London for 40 years, was nominated for the John Young Memorial award by the Richmond and Hounslow CAMRA branch for his iconic brews.

His famous brews including Extra Special Bitter, 1845, London Pride and session beer Chiswick have already clinched him a number of awards, while his range of seasonal ales continue to attract customers.

Mr Keeling said: “It is great for Fuller’s to receive an award of this stature and it is definitely an award for the team. Without the brewing team we have, we would not be able to continue producing our great beer.”

Mr Keeling won recognition in particular for his reintroduction and reinvention of old recipes such as Fuller’s ‘Past Masters’ range.

Richmond and Hounslow CAMRA branch said: “His championing of these beers and longer brewing times, in the face of other brewers simply brewing commodity beers in the shortest possible time, is highly commendable.”

Mr Keeling was presented with his award at Hock Cellar at Fuller's Griffin brewery attended by London's CAMRA regional director Geoff Strawbridge and Richard Fuller, Corporate Affairs Director of Fuller’s brewery, on December 8.

The John Young Memorial award was first awarded in 2007 in memory of John Young, the chairman of the brewery from 1962 and an iconic figure in the London and national brewing scene who died of cancer aged 85.
