A 17-year-old boy has been convicted of the manslaughter of Acton teenager Usaama Ali, who died after being stabbed in the heart .

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had earlier pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was on Monday (July 25) found not guilty of murder by a jury at Isleworth Crown Court.

Usaama, 17, who was found with a stab wound to the heart, died following an argument outside a café with the defendant on October 16 last year.

Met police and London Air Ambulance were called to Crown Street at 12.50pm and, together with local doctors and members of the public, carried out first aid to save his life.

But Usaama was taken to St Mary's Hospital and was pronounced dead at 2pm that day.

The former Acton High School pupil had gone to a café that day for some breakfast, and the court heard that there was an argument with the defendant at around 11.50am.

It led to the defendant stabbing Usaama in the chest before he ran off back down Crown Street and disposed of the knife.

He then disposed of his clothes and a mobile phone he has been using before he was arrested that evening, at his home address in the Catford area.

Phone records used to catch killer

Detectives used telephone date to piece together communication between the two teenagers during the days leading up to Usaama's death.

The court heard evidence suggesting the pair had conversations between them regarding a Segway that Usaama was offering for sale.

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Reeves, who led the investigation, said: "Usaama's family are devastated by the loss of a son and brother.

"Why exactly this stabbing happened remains unclear. But what may have started out as a disagreement between two teenagers resulted in the death of a young man

"It would not have done so if the defendant had not decided to carry a knife with him that day.

"He is now facing a prison sentence for manslaughter.

"This is a tragic case which shows the consequences of young people carrying knives on our streets."

The defendant will be sentenced on September 5 this year at Isleworth Crown Court.

Elijah Herry-Gooding, 18, of West Street, Erith, was also charged with Usaama's murder but was found not guilty on the same day of both murder and manalsaughter.
