The full list of candidates in May's elections to Hillingdon Council has been released.

Hillingdon Conservatives are fighting on what they say is a good record in local government, but have chosen to be listed as ‘Local Conservatives’ on May 22’s ballot papers, as David Cameron continues to attract criticism on policies such as immigration, HS2 and gay marriage.

Labour will argue it is ‘time for a change’, and is questioning Conservative cost-saving measures, which it claims have led to, among other things, a housing crisis in the borough.

Despite both sides opposing a third runway at Heathrow, they have fallen out regarding the future of the airport and the effect on employment if it is not chosen as the UK hub (see page 26).

UKIP is putting up a candidate in each ward, not enough to take control of the authority but sufficient to have a big say. Quite how big a UKIP bloc might be is one of the big questions for these elections, as both Labour and the Tories are feeling the squeeze from a party riding high in the polls.

Lib Dems, Green Party, Trade Union and Socialist Coalition, National Front, British National Party plus independents and single-issue candidates make up the remainder.
