So, dare we say that spring here? Don't worry about spring cleaning the house at the moment, how about spring cleaning your workout?

A common mistake that people make is to stick with the same gym routine/running route/swimming drill etc rather than changing these routines to something more challenging and why not look at doing that in March, now that Spring is on it's way and the summer holiday isn't far off?

So, if you currently do your exercise in the gym grab an instructor/personal trainer next time you are in and ask for a new programme, but before you do that have a good think about what you want to achieve from your workouts? Be really specific about this with the trainer and also, be really honest with yourself about how often you can workout and for how long each time.

Alternatively, think about a specific area of your body you want to work on and ask a trainer/instructor to show you 3 new exercises for that body area and really focus on them for 4 weeks. If you run, don't just stick to the same route; even if you just run it the other way round, that's something!

Better still try to include some interval runs: in simple terms run fast then run slow! So, if you normally run at a steady pace for 30 mins try hitting the local park and "sprint"/"jog"; a lot of parks have 100mtr markers or you can just sprint down one part of the park and jog the next, then just repeat for up to 30mins, or beyond.

Remember, you can apply the same theory here with a walk and a jog, sprinting isn't necessary! The best piece of advice, in my opinion, is to be really specific with whatever goal you set yourself and then really focus on it!
