Two gorgeous black kittens, Rick and Carl, had a special visitor recently when television documentary-maker, Louis Theroux, visited The Mayhew Animal Home and spent time with the animals there.

Rick and Carl arrived at The Mayhew as part of an unwanted litter and are looking for a home where they can be loved and have fun. If this could be with you, contact 020 8962 8000.

The Mayhew’s Christmas Fair is on November 30 (12-4pm), when the home will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland with stalls and entertainment. This year, they are introducing a baking competition with categories including Christmas cakes and ginger bread so, let’s get baking. The Mayhew is at Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green. Details from

Meanwhile the animal charity, Blue Cross, is offering us an amazing opportunity to do something worthwhile from home while, at the same time, being part of a great team. They are looking for Support Line Volunteers for their excellent Pet Bereavement Support Service. This service responds to phone calls and emails from people, throughout the UK, who find it difficult to cope with the loss of a pet and need someone to talk to.

Blue Cross needs people who are good listeners and have a warm, approachable manner and who have experienced the loss of a pet. Volunteers respond to calls in their own home and need to be able to commit to at least two 4-hour sessions a month. The service is confidential. If accepted, volunteers undertake a 16 week study course from home with support from staff and contact with other volunteers. If you are interested in joining this valuable team contact Blue Cross on 01993 867216 or .

Also, of course, remember about this service, if your pet has died and you want to talk to someone. In that case, phone 0800 096 6606. The line is open from 8.30am-8.30pm daily.
