Camping again, this time in Norfolk. If this was a postcard, I’d send a picture of where I had lunch – the Nosebag Café at Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Wish you were here, too.

Redwings is the largest horse sanctuary in the UK providing a home for 1500 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. I met Victoria who born at Redwings after her Mum, Mayfair, was rescued from London. When she arrived Mayfair was so thin, they did not realise she was in foal.

Moving from foals to puppies, the UK’s biggest anti-puppy farming event, the celebrity-judged Pupaid Fun Dog Show takes place at Primrose Hill, NW3 on Saturday September 6. Puppy farming is the mass commercial production of puppies for profit with little thought for the welfare of the animals. Dogs are often diseased and kept in horrific conditions with poorly pups being sold through pet shops, online or newspaper ads.

To guard against supporting this trade, if buying a puppy or kitten, Pupaid believes prospective owners should always ask “Where’s Mum?” They should insist on seeing the puppy or kitten interacting with the mother. Or choose an orphaned/abandoned one from an animal charity where animals are health checked.

There is a debate in Parliament about puppy farming on September 4. Pupaid are asking us to write to our MP (draft letter is at ) asking them to attend.

On Sunday September 7 (11am to 4.30pm), Battersea Dogs and Cats Home are holding their fantastic Annual Reunion and Fun Day at Battersea Park. One of the dogs currently in their care is Daniel - a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier brought to Battersea after being handed into a police station. He is thriving in foster care where his favourite activity is fetching his ball while swimming in the river but he would really love his own permanent owner. If this could be you, call 0843 509 4444.
