I am extremely excited to say that I have been signed to Hughes Models – a fantastic UK plus size agency and I am now formally represented by them!

I have had a range of jobs over the past few weeks including a sportswear brand and a home shopping channel.

I am a shopping addict and I can’t resist the temptation of home shopping channels – so I had always dreamt of being able to model on television and also to see behind the scenes.

It was absolutely a dream come true when I was assigned to this job. I am in awe of the presenters who are so natural and confident on live TV and so passionate about what they do. Some of them have numerous shows throughout the day but never seem to tire during the long day.

I was quite nervous for my first appearance – but the team were so supportive I didn’t want to come off air!   I was given a ‘live TV crash course’ – which camera to look at when, when I should turn to show off the garments and when to walk off set (quietly – as the presenters were still talking in the background!)

I got to showcase some gorgeous Summer dresses and followed the lead of two experienced models who were true professionals and made it look very natural.  I have since done a few shows and now that I know what to expect I really enjoy it.

I always look forward to seeing what I will be modelling (and secretly I feel like I’m shopping and trying on potential purchases).

As I’m a newbie, I’m not ashamed to admit I have so far recorded all the shows I have appeared on and rushed home to watch them, as it’s so surreal. It’s also brilliant to see how different the set looks in real life and how it then appears on the TV screen.

I love the variety that being a ‘professional’ model brings and my fingers are firmly crossed for the future!

Amy Sellu is a model from Ickenham who is classified by the fashion industry as 'plus size', that is, more than a size 10. In fact she is a size 16, and after winning the Simply Be Face Of Plus Size in 2010, gets regular modelling work and has appeared in Italian Vogue. Amy took her A-levels at Uxbridge College, has worked in the health and fitness industry and is working toward becoming a personal trainer.
