With a long cold spell ahead, women are faced with a fashion versus the weather predicament involving their footwear. Often when winter approaches, footwear becomes stout and dull, for the purpose of being practical and avoiding frostbite!
A perfect example is the Ugg boots that undoubtedly kept us all warm and comfortable last winter, but are devastatingly inelegant, and ruin chic ensembles. As a result, many women are left pondering how fabulous can your shoes be when it is freezing outside?
The answer lies with the extraordinary handiwork of designers such as Alexander
McQueen, Chloe and Stella McCartney, who have given inspiration for the funkiest shoes of the season. These incorporate tasteful flats, stylish ankle-skimmers, and over-the-knee statement boots.
Flats have replaced the statement towering heels that dominated spring/summer catwalks and thankfully so, giving your ankles a break.
They come in two styles. Jewelled varieties are appropriate both for day and night, as they are super feminine and glamorous enough to work with dressy outfits. The alternative is brogues, which are an interpretation of masculine shoes. They are a complementary accessory to the pegged trousers of the season and the whole androgyny look.
If you prefer a bit of height, ankle boots are the route to take. They can be found in varied textures, such as leather, patent and suede, with styles such as peep-toe, laced and zipped.
Ankle boots can be worn with skinny jeans, leggings and dresses, and, like flats, they are perfect for an edgy evening look.
But the boldest of all this season's footwear has to be over-the-knee boots, which are a perfect update to the timeless winter boot.
They can also be worn with varied garments, but probably look best with mini length dresses and skirts. This is an ideal way to carry over your lightweight dresses from the previous season but do remember to wear thick ribbed tights with the boots to avoid cheapening your look.
These boots look great in suede, an ultra-feminine texture.
This winter there will be now be no reason why your footwear should hinder the rest of your outfit as these three styles will see you through the cold season.
