Amazon Kindles have been flying off the shelves for eight years now and will be a turn-to product for many holidaymakers this summer.

So to this year and the company’s latest offering, the Kindle Oasis , released just in time for beach season.

Weighing in at just 4.6 ounces, the Oasis is Amazon’s lightest Kindle to date and is remarkably 3.4mm at its thinnest point.

That makes it 20 per cent lighter than any of its predecessors and one of the main reasons you should consider upgrading to .

With the new lightweight feel and ergonomic design of the case, which encompasses a battery pack for added power, readers enjoy their most comfortable experience yet.

The Kindle Oasis shifts the centre of gravity to your palm, to rest in your hand like the spine of a book so that the device feels balanced for one-handed reading.

Like the Paperwhite, users can tap the screen of the Oasis to turn a page or alternatively click two buttons situated perfectly within reach of your thumb.

“To lean back and read for hours, you need a sanctuary from distraction,” explains Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO.

“We want Kindle to disappear, and Kindle Oasis is the next big step in that mission.

“It’s the most advanced Kindle we’ve ever built—thin and ultra-lightweight, it gets out of the way so you can lose yourself in the author’s world.”

You can tell that the comfort of the reading experience was placed high on a list of priorities from the team tasked with designing the Oasis.

They’ve certainly succeeded in that and it also looks good aesthetically with the new dual-battery design cover providing both function and fashion.

Battery life comes in at a staggering two months from a single charge when the device is used at a conservative 30-minute period each day.

The included charging cover is made of high-quality leather and is available in black, merlot, or walnut.

It opens like a book and fits closely around the bezel, waking Kindle Oasis when opened and putting it to sleep when closed.

Featuring the latest generation high-resolution 300 ppi Paperwhite display for crisp text that reads like the printed page, Oasis can also boast being the brightest ever Kindle/

A redesigned built-in front light features 60% more LEDs to keep things illuminated in even the toughest conditions.

It all sounds very impressive, and it is, but many of the features of the Oasis can already be found in previous Kindle incarnations for a much cheaper price.

Undoubtedly, the Oasis is the best Kindle ever released. The statistics and user experience will confirm this, but Amazon already had a fine product on their hands.

Is it worth buying one? If you are not working on a budget, then yes. Absolutely. If you want the best then that comes a price.

That price is £270 for a Wi-Fi only model or £330 with free global 3G. A hefty sum for an e-reader which is not light years ahead of the £110 Wi-Fi PaperWhite.

But it is an improvement nonetheless. The only point to ponder is whether you want a luxury item rather than a basic one. Either way, you can’t lose with a Kindle.
