Spooks, ghosts and witches do not only hang around in churchyards and derelict manor houses - apparently they can also be found on the banks of the Grand Union Canal.

So the Hillingdon Narrowboat Association (HNA) has decided to run a series of family trips on its canal boats to see whether they can spot any of the visitors from the underworld.

Boats will leave from The Coy Carp pub in Copper Mill Lane, Harefield on October 3, November 1 and 2, from 5-9pm each day.

HNA chairman, Loraine Grainger said: “The trip will take about an hour altogether, going through the lock, up to Maple Cross marina and back again, and boats will be leaving every half hour and can take up to 12 people per trip.

"It would be preferable for people to book their places in advance so that we can keep waiting times down to a minimum.”

A family ticket for two adults and up to two children costs £15 and individual tickets are £5 each.
