A section of Acton High Street will be closed from Sunday (October 25) due to a collapsed sewer pipe and is expected to be re-opened after five days.

According to Thames Water, work will begin to repair the collapsed pipe three and half meters under ground to prevent sewer flooding.

This means the High Street will be closed between Acton Police Station, Steyne Road, and Gunnersbury Lane with several signposts diverting local routes.

But a two-way temporary traffic light system will be set up on the junction of Gunnersbury Lane and the High Street.

Thames Water spokesman Michael Wells said: “We know it’s frustrating when journeys are disrupted and we’re sorry for any inconvenience the work may cause, but it is a ‘must-do’ job.

"When a sewer pipe is broken the sewage doesn’t flow through it and instead backs up into the network of pipes, often into properties through toilets and sinks.

"It’s a truly miserable experience so we have to do all we can to protect our customers from it.

"We’ll be working day and night to get the job done and the road reopened as quickly as possible."

Work will begin at 6am.
