A row has broken out in Ealing over alleged illegal parking near a school that residents say is becoming a "problem for our quality of life".

Fears of an impending accident have been raised by residents in Perivale, Ealing, regarding Aintree Road, Bideford Avenue, Sarsfield Road, Fraser Road and Federal Road.

They claim the roads are being blocked up by lorries and large vehicles because drivers are ignoring parking restrictions to unload goods into local shops.

Doug Becker, who has lived on Sarsfield Road for six years, said the vehicles are obstructing a once clear pavement that poses a safety risk to pedestrians and school children at St. John Fisher Catholic Primary School, in Sarsfield Road.

The hostel manager, who lost a family member to a road accident, added: "When we moved here, a lot of these businesses were empty and there was a thrust to get these businesses, which is all very well.

"But I do not think anyone has thought about increased traffic and unloading, when the laws say we should have a safe footpath.

"It is becoming a problem for our quality of life and getting round in the area is getting worse and worse. I have been followed to my house by a garage owner trying to intimidate me."

Ealing Council claims its parking team heard directly from local residents at a ward forum on November 5, 2015, which prompted the repair of yellow lines, signs and increased enforcement.

A council spokesperson added there have been more than 1,700 visits to the concerned roads from contractor, NSL, who issued 283 Parking Charge Notices (PCN) from January 1 2015, to January 17 this year.

The spokesperson said: "We are planning joint patrols with the police, parking enforcement officers and our environment team in the next few weeks to tackle the pavement parking problem.

"We are not aware of any allegations of misconduct against our officers, but we will ask our contractors to investigate and we invite residents to contact us directly with any allegations."

Lifelong Perivale resident and activist Alex Nieora claims parents at St John Fisher Catholic Primary School are unhappy because their children are forced to walk out in between lorries and large vehicles.

Earlier this year, a child from the school was struck by a vehicle on Sarsfield Road reversing in the area which led to a business apologising to the child's parents.

Mr Nieora, a lifelong Perivale resident and activist, said: "The number of visits to Aintree Road and Bideford Avenue by Civil Enforcement Officers and the number of PCNs the Council claims have been issued does not reflect our (residents) experience.

Headteacher at St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, Tracey Brosnan, said she had not received any parental complaints but was aware of safety concerns and would be working with the council to improve this.
