An Olympic track and field athlete who has won multiple gold medals "inspired" children on a visit to an Ealing primary school.

Tosin Oke, a Nigerian triple jump star, gave a talk to pupils at Selborne Primary School, Conway Crescent, Greenford, on November 16.

Oke, who won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, took to the school's hall to offer up his tips in triple jumping.

The 2015 African Games gold medalist, who finished seventh in the London 2012 Olympics, offered a talk on how pupils could achieve their dreams.

Head teacher Kerry Shilling said: "Whilst at school, he spoke to the children about his Olympic success and shared some of his gold medals.

"He talked to the pupils about respect for all and how you have to work hard at school to achieve your goals – he has 2 degrees.

"He also reminded them about eating a good breakfast to have the energy to learn and he demonstrated some of his triple jumps and managed to hop the 15 metres of our school hall in 4 hops (it took a pupil volunteer 16 hops).

"Respect and Democracy are 2 of the 4 strands of ‘British Values’ that all schools must be delivering under the new Ofsted schedule/with Prevent/radicalisation in the forefront of our minds."

Temitope Campbell, 11, a Year 6 pupil, said, “It was brilliant to see a real Olympic athlete in our school hall. He is 7 in the world! Tosin told us how he read lots of books and studied hard at school and he inspired me to do the same. I could not believe how far he could jump.”
