The North Korean embassy, located in Ealing , has refused to comment after the country's ambassador in London was summoned for a missile launch.

Asia Minister Hugo Swire, from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), summoned the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) ambassador in London, Mr Hyon Hak Bong, on Monday (February 8).

It followed DPRK's launch of ballistic missile technology on Sunday (February 7) and Mr Swire "made clear" the launch was a deliberate violation of a number of Unite Nations (UN) Security Council Resolutions.

But when getwestlondon asked the North Korean Embassy, located in Gunnersbury Avenue, if Mr Bong had been summoned from its building in Acton , Ealing, a spokesman refused to answer and hung up the phone.

Following the order, Mr Swire said: "I summoned North Korea’s Ambassador today to make clear in the strongest terms the UK’s condemnation of the launch this weekend.

"North Korea’s actions continue to present a threat to regional and international security.

"I fully support the UN Security Council’s strong condemnation of this launch.

"This test, even if characterised as a space launch vehicle or launch of a satellite, clearly contributes to North Korea’s development of nuclear weapon delivery systems and is a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolutions.

"This launch is regrettable evidence that North Korea continues to prioritise the development of its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes over the well-being of its own people."

Mr Swire added that the UK will be working closely with international partners at the United Nations to agree a "collective" response to this latest provocation.

The rocket launch was celebrated in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang on Saturday (February 6) with a firework display.
