An MP used Carers Rights Day to raise awareness of the help available to them in recognition of their huge contribution across Harrow.

Labour's MP for Harrow West, Gareth Thomas, urged carers in the borough to find out about the support they are entitled to in light of statistics which show there are 1,158 carers who are eligible but not currently claiming any carers allowance, and Carers UK have reported that 360,000 full-time carers miss out on the benefit.

Mr Thomas said: "Carers make a huge contribution here in Harrow caring for ill, frail or disabled loved ones. It’s vital that we are able to identify and signpost carers to the advice and support that is available locally."
