Counting for the next Mayor of London started more than 14 hours ago, but despite many media outlets giving Sadiq Khan the nod for the job, there has been some "small discrepancies within the electoral figures".

And that means there will be no official announcement any time soon. In fact, a spokeswoman for London Elects said that there have been “small discrepancies within the electoral figures”, and they are working with the Electoral Commission to resolve them.

The spokeswoman added: “We are working towards a declaration at midnight”.

London has form for this sort of thing. In 2012 the result came around midnight after a power cut at one of the three counting centres in Alexandra Palace.

We will still be bringing you live updates as they happen direct from City Hall so please stay with us for the next few hours until the results are announced .
