An English football star will light up the lives of children in hospital this Christmas as a part of the Harrow Observer’s Toy Appeal.

Rachel Yankey, who has played 126 times for England’s women’s team – making her the most-capped English footballer – will be delivering presents to children at Northwick Park Hospital in Watford Road, Harrow, and it is all thanks to you.

Generous readers of this newspaper have been busy getting into the festive spirit and donating gifts for the appeal, which is being run in partnership with Harrow Council, and now the football star cannot wait to bring Christmas cheer to unwell children as she dons red and white yet again – not as a player for her club Arsenal this time however – but as Santa.

While Christmas is a magical time for many children, those who fall ill and have to spend the festive season in hospital are not the only ones who can feel a bit down, but also their parents and family.

That is why all your help in giving people a Christmas to remember is so appreciated.

News editor of the Observer Mhairi Macfarlane said: “We are delighted that Rachel is supporting our Toy Appeal to give children at the hospital a Christmas to remember.

“Of course, none of this would be possible without the kindness of our readers who have donated so generously, so we thank you all for getting involved again this year.”

Staff from Harrow Council’s libraries have been busy accepting all donations, readying them to be delivered by the footballing star.

Councillor Susan Hall, Conservative leader of Harrow Council, said: “Joining with the Observer to support its appeal is now a festive tradition at the council and I am really pleased this year has gone so well.

“Everyone who has taken part can have the satisfaction of knowing they have helped to brighten a child’s Christmas through their generosity.”
