A charity Christmas card shop that has sold an estimated five million cards has opened its doors for the 30th year running.

The Ealing Charity Christmas Card Shop, at the Church of Christ the Saviour, New Broadway, has raised over £500,000 since it opened in 1985.

Guests including MP Rupa Huq, the Mayor of Ealing Councillor Harbhajan Kaur Dheer, MP Stephen Pound and radio and television presenter John Sergeant were there for its official launch on Thursday(November 5) after it opened on Monday (November 2).

Organiser and founder Sue Green said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating our 30 Year Anniversary.

“Unlike many other charity card shops, the Ealing Charity Christmas Card Shop is able to send 100% of the money taken directly back to charity.

“Because of our fantastic group of 70 volunteer helpers who come back every year to keep the shop running smoothly, we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for many different charities over the last 30 years.”

She added that she opened the card shop with her late friend, Pat Harvey, and has since been running it eight weeks every year since.

Last year the shop raised over £28,000 for 30 different charities, having raised over £500,000 for over 100 different charities since it first opened.

It takes around 100 volunteers to keep the shop going over the festive period, with 100% of sales going towards charity.

The shop will run until December 19, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
