The UK’s biggest winter sports festival hits London this weekend, so get your warmest gear out and head to Clapham Common for five days of fun.

Freeze Festival, in association with Metro, brings big name music acts, ski and snowboard competitions, snow gear and apres ski all together for a five-day snowy extravaganza, starting this Wednesday (November 27).

For the past six years, Freeze has called Battersea Power Station its home but this year it has moved to Clapham Common, and with over 30,000 people expected to enjoy a trip to the mountains without having to schlep to the Alps, it is set to be a big one.

The hit day is Saturday (November 30), when competitors from all over the world will take part in the Hail The Rail competition where they will show off their skills as they ski or snowboard down a rail to scoop a share of the £12,000 prize money. British ski sensation and Team GB Olympic hopeful, Monty Wright will be one of the exciting challengers.

It wouldn’t be a festival without some music and Freeze will not disappoint. AlunaGeorge, the duo who topped the charts with DJ act Disclosure, will be the main stage’s special guest on Saturday night with 19-year-old French super-producer, Madeon who has produced remixes for Deadmau5, Pendulum and Lady Gaga.

Super-star collaborator, DJ Fresh, who has worked with the likes of Rita Ora and Rizzle Kicks will be on the main stage with one of Havana’s finest musical exports, The Cuban Brothers.

Ibiza Rocks the Snow bar will feature Clean Bandit, Knytro and Chase and Status, while the Metro Lodge will be home to a host of DJs.

Freeze Festival will feature big names like DJ Fresh and AlunaGeorge

There will also be a Guiness World Record attempt, with visitors being encouraged to turn up in their Christmas jumpers at 5pm on Saturday to hopefully make history by having the most Christmas jumpers in one place at the same time.

Four themed alpine bars with everything from mulled wine and cider to raclette and bratwurst will help keep the cold at bay and the alpine shopping village will have everything for a ski bunny's next trip to the mountains, from the latest technology, snow equipment and next season’s ski and snowboard wear to winter getaway advice.

Ski and snowboard films will be screened and athletes featuring in the films will be giving talks, as well as mountaineers sharing their knowledge on avalanche safety.

Prices start at £8 for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday tickets, and Saturday tickets start at £32. A Season Pass starts at £54.
