London's hotly-anticipated Slide the City event, in which a giant 100m waterslide was to be installed in Wembley Park, has been cancelled.

The event, due to be held on Saturday August 22, would have seen visitors speed down a slippery slide from Wembley Stadium and down Olympic Way.

But in a statement issued on Thursday (August 13), organisers said: "Regretfully, the London Slide the City event scheduled for August 22 at Wembley Park will have to be rescheduled to a future (TBC) date.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances we will not be able to hold the event as scheduled. There are a lot of factors that come into play for an event of this nature.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and cannot speculate at this time of when a reschedule may happen for 2016.

"Because of the uncertainty of the future date, we will be refunding your ticket fees over the next week."

Better luck in 2016, folks!
