Families across the UK can enjoy discounted Virgin Trains tickets this May half-term, ideal for a last minute "staycation" getaway.

The train company says the "inexpensive fares", priced under £29, are available from Saturday May 27 to Sunday June 4.

Customers can save on West Coast routes including London to Birmingham for less than £18.

People can also make savings up to the evening before travel with the Virgin Trains Family ticket. With this fare, a family of up to six will pay the unbeatable fare of £99 London to Manchester.

The bargain "staycation" fares available are:

  • London to Birmingham: 52,000 tickets available at £18.00 and below.
  • London to Manchester: 23,000 tickets available at £27.00 and below.
  • London to Liverpool: 8,000 tickets available at £28.00 and below.

Meanwhile Railcards and group discounts can also be applied to the already slashed seat fares.

This means families who hold the "Family & Friends Railcard", which costs £30 a year - can receive a further discount.
