They’re not facing the final curtain but it is the end of the 50th anniversary year for a Chiswick-based theatre group.

Theatre West Four is rounding off its glittering golden 12 months with Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

This enchanting and comical tale of love and magic, delusion and illusion is one of the Bard’s best loved and most accessible plays.

The story opens on the eve of the nuptials of Theseus, Duke of Athens and his Amazonian bride, Hippolyta, but quickly moves to focus on the forbidden and unrequited love of four young ‘Athenians’, whose hasty decisions find them lost in an enchanted wood at the mercy of Faerie mischief.

At the same time a long and heated war is raging between Oberon and Titania, King and Queen of the Faeries, wreaking havoc upon natural order of the mortal world.

Bumbling along into the story come a band of rural working men and women who, in their sincere-hearted innocence, decide to perform a play for the Duke’s nuptials and meet in the wood to rehearse becoming entangled in the magical mayhem with extra-ordinary consequences.

These threads of mortal and magical mishap entwine themselves around each other – will they ever find their way back?

For 50 years Theatre West Four have been staging productions in West London. Members come from all over London to participate in readings, workshops, rehearsals and productions.

Earlier this year getwestlondon reported how their patron HRH The Duke of Gloucester was present at a special anniversary performance of Radio Times.

Members also kept the celebrations going by holding a gala dinner in September to which many of the now non-performing actors were in attendance.

The group welcomes enthusiasts interested in performing, directing, producing, stage management and all aspects of theatre production.

The final show of the year runs from Tuesday November 11 to Saturday 15, including a Saturday matinee at The Questors Theatre, Mattock Lane, Ealing.
