Saffron and Golden Dragon are the most popular names for Indian and Chinese restaurants in Britain.

A Trinity Mirror study of more than 100,000 takeaways and sit-in restaurants registered with the Food Standards Agency reveals what many of us suspected - that the same names crop up time and time again.

There are 98 Golden Dragons across the UK - putting it top of the Chinese list ahead of China Garden (92), Jade Garden (89), the Great Wall (72), and Lucky House (62).

Happy House (57) is sixth, followed by Golden City (50) and Taste of China (48). China Chef and Happy Garden (47) share ninth place. The analysis shows the colour gold is a recurring theme in the most popular names - as are lotus leaves, woks and dragons.

Where Indian restaurants are concerned, Saffron is followed by Taj Mahal (48) and Taste of India (48).

Bengal Spice and Spice of India (40) complete the top five.
