Westminster-born Eddie Redmayne has been nominated for an Academy Award for his role in stunning biopic The Danish Girl.

This comes just one year on from his first Oscar win, which he earned from starring at Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything.

The star has been nominated for the award alongside Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Bryan Cranston (Trumbo) and Matt Damon (The Martian) for Best Actor.

Fans of DiCaprio will note that the star has been nominated FIVE times before 2016 without winning the coveted award.

In the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, Jennifer Lawrence (Joy) and Cate Blanchett (Carol) have been nominated, along with Charlotte Rampling (45 Years), Brie Larson (Room) and Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn).

The 88th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday February 28 at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre. Comedian Chris Rock will be hosting the glitzy star-studded affair.
